Online Professional Development for Washington Teachers
Professional learning designed to meet educator license renewal requirements.
Professional Development Requirements for Washington Teachers
The Washington State Professional Educator Standards Board (PESB) outlines the state’s certificate renewal process. Teachers are required to complete teacher clock hours or Professional Growth Plans (PGPs) to maintain their credentials.
Educators must submit renewal applications through the state system and provide evidence of meeting all renewal requirements. Independent courses such as those from The Teacher’s Academy are designed to help teachers complete professional development hours, though final acceptance is determined by districts or PESB-approved providers.
Professional Development Schedule
Washington has incorporated new professional learning requirements into certificate renewal:
- Equity-Based School Practices: Beginning July 1, 2023, educators must complete 15 clock hours focused on equity-based school practices (HB 1426).
- STEM Endorsements: Teachers with STEM-related endorsements must also complete 15 clock hours in STEM integration.
- Administrators: Must complete 10 clock hours in equity-based school practices, 10 clock hours in national educational leadership standards, and 5 clock hours in government-to-government relations with tribal nations.
Teachers may also use a Professional Growth Plan (PGP) to document professional learning. The specific renewal path depends on credential type and endorsement, so educators should confirm requirements directly with PESB.
Online PD Hours for Washington Private School Teachers
Private and Christian school educators in Washington also benefit from structured professional development for educators. As an ACSI-approved provider, The Teacher’s Academy offers approved online PD that supports CEU tracking and professional enrichment outside the public school system.
