Teaching is a demanding job. Each day can unleash any number of stressors, from curriculum headaches to scheduling challenges. With spring break around the corner, teachers have an opportunity to slough off the stress and improve their mental and physical well-being. The following ideas will help you make the most of your time away from the classroom.
Nurture the “Me”
As a teacher, you’re typically concerned with the well-being of your students. Spring break is the time to nurture yourself. Indulging in small things you love can do wonders for your mood. Hit your favorite local coffee shop to start that novel you never seem to have time to read. Book a massage or get your nails done. Taking care of yourself means treating yourself during your holiday away from work.
Quality Time with Loved Ones
As a busy teacher, you know how difficult it can be to set aside time for good friends and even your family. During your break, try to enjoy spending time with family and friends. Schedule a luncheon or host a barbecue. You might even plan a special day with your bestie or partner and do something extra fun, like a weekend getaway.
Nature’s Healing Power
For months, you’ve been surrounded by whiteboards, electronic devices, four walls, and desks. Use your spring break to get a healthy dose of nature. Take walks at a nearby forest preserve or visit your area botanical garden or nature center. Hiking trails or just relaxing at the park can help you de-stress while getting some much-needed sunshine and fresh air.
Hobbies and Fun
It’s spring break! If you want to binge-watch The Office or any other trending show, now is the time. Finding time for the things you enjoy doing isn’t easy when you have papers to grade and lessons to plan. Be sure to allow yourself the opportunity to do the things you can never find the time for.
Use these tips to enhance your personal well-being, or go a step further and sign up for the Wellness for Teachers course. When you get your recharge, you’ll be better able to meet the demands of your everyday classroom.
Ready to enjoy your spring break to the fullest? Here’s a bucket list to get you started!
