Clip from the professional development education course: AI in ED (Artificial Intelligence in Education):
Does AI deepen the learning process or should we be wary?
Quick answer: Both.
In the battle between teachers and plagiarism: Point, Plagiarism. In response, Edward Tian, from Princeton University developed a free GPT checker called, GPT zero. The response from educators, university admissions offices, and more has been overwhelming. Tian explains the need for a tool like this. He says,
“In a world where AI text generation technology is rampant, we need to build the safeguards so that these technologies are adopted responsibly. This means knowing when and where AI is being applied — not to prevent ChatGPT from being used, but to prevent AI from being abused by bad actors — think bots, misinformation, election interference campaigns, trust and safety violations, differential access to generative AI among low-income students, fake news, and articles being misrepresented as human. (Mok)”
How can we detect AI?
Take the quiz!
This blog will give you tools to distinguish between AI generated content and actual photos, text and music. Then take the quiz to see how you do. Keep your results (to complete Project 3 in the course, AI in ED.)

How can teachers use AI in the classroom?
AI programs like ChatGPT can produce human-like essays, artwork, photographs, and memes. As in the past, students are ahead of us in this technology and have been using ChatGPT to generate debates and essays and quickly search for exam answers. So why should schools even allow ChatGPT programs to run on student computers? Some districts argue that with correct education and implementation of AI, the benefits outweigh the risks. That is a decision best left up to administration. So, while they contemplate the pros and cons of AI, let’s arm ourselves with the knowledge of AI and how it can assist you in the classroom.
First, AI is most likely already being used in your classroom to differentiate learning for your students. Adaptive learning programs such as The Class Dojo, Grammarly, Duolingo, Xtra Math, and most interactive text books use AI technology to assess the learning level of students and progress accordingly.
Similarly, you have probably used AI when troubleshooting tech issues with your learning management systems like Blackboard or Canvas. Ever use the chat feature for support? You were talking to a bot! And if it wasn’t frustrating you, it was a successful AI program. Have you made a playlist for your students and somehow, based on the music you chose, the program makes a great suggestion? Again, that was AI. Need more info? Cech out our course: AI in ED!
What are some safe AI tools to use in the classroom
This free AI image generator creates any arbitrary combination your mind can muster! Have fun with ancient turtles, hula hooping on the top of Mt Everest, or get real with designing a class logo.
This app uses AI to generate quiz questions based on the prompt you give it. You can request quiz questions based on something generic like the Emancipation proclamation. Or submit a URL to an online article or a YouTube video.
Students can also do this to practice for an upcoming test!
This is ChatGPT but in a historical figure format. You can ask anyone from history what it was like to experience events from their time period.
More tools to use in the classroom can be found by taking our 15- hour professional development course, AI in ED (Artificial Intelligence in Education).
