Professional Development for Virginia Teachers

Professional Development Hours for Virginia Teachers

In Virginia, teachers are required to complete 180 professional development points every five years to maintain a five-year renewable teaching license. For a ten-year renewable license, 270 professional development points are required. These points can be earned through various activities, including college coursework, professional development activities, and other approved related activities.

If the required points are not completed during the license’s validity period, the teacher’s license will lapse, and reinstatement will be required through the Virginia Department of Education.
