The Teacher’s Academy is proud to help our teacher friends maintain their professional licenses in the great state of New York! After a great start in Pennsylvania, we have expanded our services to allow New York teachers the same convenience and affordability as the rest of the nation. Now, if you are living and teaching anywhere in New York, maintaining your 175 hours of continuing education every five years, can be completed from the convenience of your own home. Read on to find out how teachers in towns like, Brewster, Cross River, and Somers, NY have already taken advantage of quickly obtaining the necessary hours.
The Teacher’s Academy, LLC began in 2012 (under the name ACT 48 Academy) by teachers in Pennsylvania looking for an easy, more affordable way to maintain their teaching certificates. The creation of our online courses (which are the MOST affordable in the country) was the answer! Our courses are created by teachers for teachers so they are relevant to current teaching practices and convenient enough to be completed from your own home, at your own pace.
We have purposely designed our courses so teachers can concentrate on building their skills and learning about effective teaching strategies instead of trying to navigate through confusing technology. The format for all of our courses does not change. Once you take one course, you will notice that the layout for your next course is exactly the same so you do not have to spend any extra time trying to traverse a new format.
We have considered the financial burden placed on many teachers as well. The pricing of our courses is less expensive than the pricing at a local community college. $79.99 is the cost of our 15 credit hour courses. $89.99 for an 18 credit hour course, $39.99 for 6 credits hours and $24.99 for a 3 credit hour course, all of which include all of the materials you will need to finish the course. There are no administrative fees, processing fees or fees for books or materials like you would pay for at a community college or even a four-year institution.
The projects in the course have everything to do with implementing your newly acquired skills, into your classroom right away! Most of our projects are simply work that teachers are required to do anyway, like lesson plans, or creating activities to use with students. Many of our projects also necessitate teachers to create their own customized materials to address the needs of their specific students! Because we are teachers, we understand how important and precious your time is so all of our projects are meaningful and applicable in the classroom.
The process for downloading a course from The Teacher’s Academy is also easy and quick. First, you must create an account with The Teacher’s Academy. Next you can choose a course and add it to your cart. Once you pay for the course (through Paypal), the course and all of the materials are immediately sent to the email you provided to us on your account. The instructions for downloading the course are in the email and when you have completed the course work, there are instructions for uploading your projects to our account. Within a few business days you will receive a “Congratulations” email with specific feedback on your completed projects and 2 certificates for each course (your work is reviewed by teachers, not computers). One certificate is for your records and the other is for you to turn into your administrator. In New York, some schools request teachers to seek approval of the professional development coursework- no worries! The Teacher’s Academy has a “Request for Approval” form for teachers to print out and give to their administrators. Plus, we are confident that our courses meet the pedagogy standards of any administration. We truly understand how difficult and time-consuming maintaining professional development hours can be and we strive to make every step of the process painless so you can spend more time where you need to be – in the classroom!
The Teacher’s Academy has a wide variety of courses to offer and encourages teachers to take courses that might not be aligned with their current professional track. For example, if you are teaching English, try our Nutrition or Rock History courses for fun! If you are teaching at the elementary level, our Website Reviews or Financial Planning course will enrich your practice. Or take advantage of your expertise and stay within your professional track! Math teachers will love the lesson plan projects in our Teaching Math using Common Core Standards course because they will be receiving professional development hours for their time and energy as well as creating lesson plans – something they would be doing anyway.
So now there’s no excuse, you have access to a wide variety of courses that will help you maintain your professional certificate and give you a few teaching tips along the way! Have fun, New York! (We know you always do!)
