Are your students learning the skills that they need to thrive in a digital world? This summer, it’s time to start thinking about how you can improve your technology skills to both spice up your lesson plans and better guide your students as they explore common computer programs.
At the Teacher’s Academy, we provide several technology-based and Act 48-approved online courses that offer professional development for teachers in PA. Check out a few of our most popular options!
Computers: The VERY Basics
Do you rarely use a computer? This course will let you explore computer functions, file management, email basics, Internet searching skills, and Microsoft Word in a fun and user-friendly way. During this course, you will create an engaging parent letter and perform effective keyword and URL web searches.
Microsoft Word for Educators
Microsoft Word is a vital tool in curriculum development and organization. Each project in this course will help you to develop useful materials for your classroom. You will:
- Design a certificate for students
- Build a test using tables and columns
- Use mail merge to communicate with parents
- Create a lesson plan that engages students with Microsoft Word
Microsoft Excel for Educators
Microsoft Excel can be a big time-saver for teachers — but only if they know how to use it! In this course, you will learn how to design a budget spreadsheet, grading sheet, and database of mailing addresses. You will also become familiar with how to manipulate spreadsheet data and how to remedy common formula errors.
Microsoft PowerPoint for Educators
This course is perfect for both new PowerPoint users and teachers who hope to dig deeper into this program. You will determine the aspects of an effective PowerPoint and then apply that knowledge to create three styles of presentation: linear, menu-driven, and interactive.
Video Production with Windows Movie Maker
Windows Movie Maker — which comes free with the Microsoft Office suite — makes it easy to edit movies! In this course, you will create three videos:
- News Report
- Persuasive Message
- Animation
You can use your new skills to create videos for parents and to empower students to make their own dynamic video productions.
