How can I update my contact information with the PA Department of Education?
Perhaps you recently moved or changed your name. It is important that the state has your most current information so that they can keep you informed of your certificate status and any other changes or news regarding your Pennsylvania teaching certificate. If you want to check that your information is current and that you are receiving any and all communication from the state, you can manage your contact information through PERMS.
Note: You must be a registered user of the PA Department of Education Website.
How can I fulfill my Act 48 Requirements Quickly?
You must obtain 180 hours of professional development every 5 years.
If your certificate is in danger of being inactive or you need to reactivate it for an upcoming job opportunity, your fastest option to obtain Act 48 hours is through The Teacher’s Academy.
Teachers can choose a course from a variety of relevant topics and download the self-paced material to their home computers instantly. It will only take our Review Team a few days to review the coursework and upload the Act 48 hours to the teacher’s professional account with the PA DOE. (Yes! We upload your hours for you!) If a few days is not quick enough, we can expedite the review process and upload Act 48 hours within one day.
What if I don’t satisfy my Act 48 Requirements?
If you don’t complete 180 hours of professional development in five (5) years, your certificate will be considered “inactive.” The certificate will remain inactive until you fulfill the 180 hour requirement.
Why is The Teacher’s Academy my best option?
The Teacher’s Academy is an Approved Provider of professional development with the Pennsylvania Department of Education. This means all courses are Act 48 approved. The Teacher’s Academy will also upload the hours to the state within 3-5 business days of completing the course (usually sooner!) All courses are written by teachers. They are relevant to 21st century education issues and convenient to take from any computer. Don’t take our word for it, ask the thousands of Pennsylvania teachers who have completed our courses.
“I enjoyed creating the lesson plan to include the motivator throughout. It made me customize the motivator and the task was very successful due to this detail.” Deana R.
“I enjoyed refreshing myself with the content and how to use assessments as well as how to include all students needs as I plan for lessons and learning in the classroom.” Ivy M.
“I am so thankful for the project as it introduced me to many exceptional resources within the LOC. I found myself reading books and lesson plans for pure enjoyment and inspiration. ” Vanessa M.
“I really liked the pre-reading strategy in which you were given a list of vocabulary and asked to write a short story using most of the words. The comparison between my writing piece and the lesson’s use of the words in a different context was a clever way to introduce the words, as well as the subject.” Elizabeth H.
“I didn’t realize how a graphic organizer could enhance what I am teaching in so many different ways. I enjoyed learning about ALL of them for each of their benefits.” Ashley S.
What makes The Teacher’s Academy experts in the field of professional development?
In 2012, two PA certified teachers created a company (Act 48 Academy) that would provide a better, quicker option for earning professional development in PA. Within two years, the demand for convenient professional development expanded across the nation so The Teacher’s Academy was born.
Our courses are written by active school teachers who understand the importance of completing professional development that is relevant, convenient and affordable. Many of our courses allow teachers to create materials that they can use in the classroom right away so they do not feel like they are wasting time. Most of our course ideas come from teachers in the field who want professional development that will have a direct impact on increasing their student’s academic achievement.
Our courses provide teachers with effective strategies that are designed to enhance the learning experience and allow for reflection to help improve pedagogy. Teachers can easily download the course files to their home computers and complete the projects at their own pace. Nothing is timed and our courses do not expire. Teachers can also complete all 180 hours for less than $2,000. That is less than a semester at a local community college and there is no travel or administrative expenses involved!
We are happy to be able to continue to effective provide professional development courses to our amazing teachers who are shaping our future: business leaders, entrepreneurs, tech gurus, medical professionals, animal caretakers, environmentalists, political activists, problem solvers, creative thinkers, and of course kind, compassionate people.
Best,
Julie & Maggie
