Teaching Emergent Learners is a 6-hour course packed with strategies, resources, and activities for teachers to use right away with their youngest learners. Even though this course is geared toward Pre-K level learners, special education and support teachers might also find the information relevant and helpful.
Clip from the course, Teaching Emergent Learners:
Today, our preschool and early elementary school teachers are a vital part of the healthy growth and development of our youngest population. Pre-K programs are extremely varied throughout the country. Government-funded programs serve about 1/3 of the country’s children. Other Pre-K programs can be funded by school districts or private entities. Initial research confirms that children who attend preschool display strong academic success through 4th grade. These short-term benefits include improvement in school readiness and academic achievement over children who did not participate in any type of preschool program.
Long-term benefits include increased earning potential, positive social/emotional well-being, and an increase in workforce participation. Preschool also prepares children for elementary learning, the routine of a full academic day and expectations for classroom behavior. This data is showing that even our youngest learners are not just ready and capable, but curious and motivated to learn new things. As more constructive data is collected, early learning options may become more affordable and readily available for parents willing to send their children to preschool. As the need grows, so will the requirement for highly-qualified preschool teachers.
