What You Need to Know About Distance Teaching

We weren’t planning to write a course on distance learning anytime soon. Of course, we weren’t planning to teach our classes from our living room last semester either! If there’s one thing we learned (actually, confirmed) from the COVID-19 outbreak of 2020, it’s that teachers are resilient, determined, clever, and steadfast in designing a new form of learning in a short amount of time. There wasn’t a rule book for this situation- there couldn’t be! Everything was changing by the hour and we simply had to continue to adjust.

This course is designed to be the one-stop resource that we wish we had during the pandemic. This act 48 approved, 15-hour course will begin by identifying priority skills and content in our courses. We will explore the most recommended online apps for organization and communication strategies, flipped classrooms, and online assessments. Apps that will be covered in this course include Padlet, Wevideo, Screencastify, Poll Everywhere, Pear Deck, Online Whiteboards, Crash Course, Quizziz, Wakelet, and much more.

In the process of writing this distance teaching course, we reached out to teachers of all disciplines and ages to compile a list of resources that worked- and ones that didn’t! If you taught through the pandemic or you are new to teaching and want to be prepared for the unexpected, this course is for you.
